Today was one of the hardest days of my life. Saying “see you when I get there” for the last time wasn’t easy. It will never be. You were the brother that I had…but the difference was, I actually wanted you around. It won’t be easy trying to get people to smile and laugh as effortlessly as you once did, although I will definitely try my best. I’ll even try my best to accomplish all those goals you had once set out, the ones we always discussed on our bus rides/walks home from school. These past weeks have been filled with tears, sadness but still it has brought on the smiles and all the wonderful memories we’ve spent together, and the days you’ve spent with the ones who you’ve loved and who truly loved you back. You were not just one of my best friends in high school, you were my brother…we are family. I love you and miss you every moment of the day. Your constant smile, and effortless way of getting people to communicate, even through our shy exteriors will always be missed. There will never be another Matthew, the kind-hearted and spiritual individual who always had a way with words.

There is so much more I wish I were able to tell you in our last moments together. It may take time for these wounds to heal, but I know you’re up there holdin’ it down for all of us. In your own words “You can do it! GET AMPED!”, is the way I’m going to be living my life. No dream will ever be too impossible. If you were able to do what you set your mind to, I should be able to do the same.

I’m still not ready to let you go, even though I know there’s something bigger in God’s plan for you. I love you, and miss you dearly. You were like my big brother throughout high school…you had my back and I had yours. I’ll never forget all the times we spent together. Especially walking all the way home from school when the TTC decided to go on strike. Until we meet again my friend. Forever yours…shorty.

Where did you first learn about sex? I mean think about it when was the first time you heard about sex or felt that you were really ready to get into it?

What most people don’t understand is that it’s often thought of as a taboo subject. The idea of talking about sex with your children hasn’t really been an easy feat for most parents, let alone a child’s teachers in junior high or high school. In most cases in school, teachers only teach what they believe is the most viable option for teens…abstinence. Let’s hit reality thought, abstinence is not the route that most teens take, especially when they feel that sex is the “in thing”. That’s what the media has been teaching us anyways right?

Educators should be taking the more progressive stance, teaching teens and pre-teens that if they are going to have sex, there are many options that they have to know about. Condoms are not your only option when becoming sexually active. There needs to be information in the market about peer pressure, sexually transmitted infections, what the media says versus reality of situations…etc. Overall I think children need to be more thoroughly educated through the system…especially when they don’t feel the need to talk to their parents. It can be quite embarrassing having “the talk” with your parents.

Thankfully, I have been lucky enough to have that open relationship with my parents where I am able to talk to them about stuff like sex. I know this isn’t the case with everyone however. Which is why I’m glad there is currently a pilot program in Toronto created by planned parenthood where teens can anonymously text in and get real information about sex rather than to rely on the media for such information that can involve your life.

56 Feel Good Things

After seeing on the news that someone had created their list of 1000 ‘awesome’ things on a newscast and has turned that into a book, I thought I would share some things that I believe to be ‘feel good’ experiences. I failed in trying to write 1000 different experiences, but I thought this would do…for now!

The moment you finally get to pee after holding it for so long
You’re waiting in line behind 30 other people to pay for your things (you’re probably in Wal-Mart) and someone just opened a new cashier’s line. Now you’re first!
Finally being able to collapse on your bed after an exhausting and stressful day
The feeling you get after taking a really big dump. (What a sense of relief)
The last day of school
Crossing the last item off on your bucket list
Finding money that you didn’t even know you lost (especially after putting that winter jacket on when the season comes and finding a load of cash in one of the pockets)
Wearing clothes straight out of the dryer in the winter time
Hearing a stranger fart in public (and you think “I’m glad it wasn’t me”)
Eating food you loved as a kid as an adult
The smell of fresh baked goods
The feeling you get right after you vomit when you’re hung over
When the only other person in the elevator is stopping at the same floor as you, or better yet stopping on a floor after you get off
Paying for something with exact change
Getting into a line right before it starts to get extremely long
Finding out that your birthday is going to be on a Friday or Saturday
A vending machine giving two things instead of one
Popping bubble wrap (you know you enjoy it too!)
Having your ears pop back to normal after a long flight
Really good candy when your bill comes at the restaurant
Winning the March Madness Office Pool
Watching something download really fast
Getting a nasty splinter out of your finger
The blood rushing back to your foot or arm after it has been asleep
The pain after a really good workout at the gym
Getting the last copy of what you wanted to watch at the video store
Spilling something on your shirt that doesn’t leave a stain
Getting gas before the price goes up
Dangling your feet into the pool
When something you’ve had your eye on goes on sale
When you sneeze and a random stranger says “bless you”
Waking up to the smell of bacon being cooked
When the wooden chopsticks from the Chinese take-out spot come apart perfectly
Staying past your bedtime when you were a little kid
Reading a really good book
Setting the new high score and getting achievements in a video game
Opening your book up to the exact page you were looking for
Hearing a song that reminds you of someone you love
Fitting into that pair of jeans you haven’t been able to wear for a while
Catching your favourite baseball player’s home run or foul ball
Wearing your boyfriends sweater
When the child is the one reading you the bedtime story
Finally getting that much needed ‘me time’ so you can relax
Getting stoned and then opening the freezer and seeing mini pizzas
Having a shower in the morning and leaning against the side of the shower
The first bite into greasy food after you’ve been drinking all night
Finding the last parking spot in the lot right in front of the doors
Finding a monthly bus pass on the street with two weeks left in the month
When you slip and recover before you fall
When you’re trying to think of a song or lyrics to a song and it comes on the radio
When you drop something and manage to catch it before it touches the ground
Hitting your first home run
When you get to the bank just before they lock the doors
When you get to the bank and see a long line, but the teller calls you right over to their wicket to serve you first
Winning the lottery
Stopping parking enforcement before he/she starts to ticket your car

Doctors Prescription

So since I’ve gotten my wisdom teeth out today I have been prescribed 3 different medications. When I went to pick them up I was told one would give me the side effect of constipation, but another would give me diarrhea. Then I was prescribed T3’s which I haven’t touched so there goes a wasted $20.

To make matters worse I have to take these mess every 6 or 8 hours. Yet I was also told that I must get lots of rest. How am I supposed to sleep when I have to take medication at 1am, 4am, 7am, 12pm, 1pm, 7pm and 8pm. Oh and did I mention that I have to wait an hour after I take any of the medications with food before I go to sleep? Ughhh. The most sleep I would get is the 4 hours between 8am and 12pm, or the 5 hours between 2pm and 7pm. This sucks lol
